Hang Seng Indexes has become the latest to launch a series of sustainability indices, covering Hong Kong and Chinese companies. The aims of the index series is to "further raise awareness about corporate sustainability" as well as to meet international demand for socially responsible investment in Chinese companies.

Ratings of companies will be carried out against their performance on environmental impact, social impact, corporate governance and workplace practices. The rating will be carried out by RepuTex (Hong Kong), an independent organisation dealing with a range of risk analytics.

Vincent Kwan, Director and General Manager of Hang Seng Indexes said that the new series would provide benchmarks that would be objective and highly visible, and will be used by the investment community to develop socially responsible investment products.

The index constituents will be announced on 15th July.
